It's hard to believe that another year has come and gone! We've made it another 365 days around the sun and I am so grateful for all that the last twelve month taught me. We've entered a new decade - HELLO 2020, show me what cha workin with! This is definitely going to be a year to remember. I would be remiss if I didn't address my absence from the blog because it's been such a pleasure and a gift to connect with and get to know so many people through blogging and sharing our family's adventures. Long story short, Mama was very pregnant and struggggggling! Pregnancy isn't easy for me (I'm talking about 10 months of unforgiving morning sickness) so I spent many days (and nights, if I'm being honest) quite miserably snuggled up with the toilet bowl. Despite the challenging pregnancy, our family was fortunate to welcome a healthy baby boy, Cash (MCMII) on July 16th in Washington, D.C. He has absolutely stolen our hearts and it has been an absolute joy to be Mama to three little ones, particularly my first boy.
I'm still in absolute awe reminiscing on some of the memories we made and many blessings that were bestowed upon us in 2019; Parker was cast as First Lady Michelle Obama in a cool project with Because of Them We Can called Black History Month: Still Black and Proud, we visited the National Portrait Gallery for the one-year anniversary of the magical moment Parker was awestruck by the Portrait of First Lady Michelle Obama (with all of Parker's Grandmothers), the cover of our book Parker Looks Up was revealed on Essence.com, a pregnant Mama & Daddy took a babymoon in South Beach Miami, we traveled to NYC to visit Simon & Schuster and see our friend artist Amy Sherald, had our first appearance as authors at the ALA Annual Conference (where we also had the pleasure and honor of meeting Dr. Carla Hayden, the Librarian of Congress), and that was just the first half of the year!
The girls went to the beach with their Grandparents while I gave birth to their baby brother Cash, Parker headed back to school in the fall, we flew to Las Vegas and met my sister Jana there (wait until you read the blog post on traveling solo with three children under five!), we were interviewed by Lester Holt on NBC Nightly News, our book Parker Looks Up was published by Simon & Schuster on October 15th and debuted at No.4 on the New York Times Bestseller List, we did lots of press for Parker Looks Up, our first book signing and reading at East City Bookshop was more than we could have imagined, and last but not least, we went to Newark, NJ to hand deliver a copy of our book Parker Looks Up to the Queen herself, Michelle Obama.
Grateful for the highs and lows of 2019 and so ready for all that 2020 has to offer. We have so many blog posts to share with our readers; from fourth trimester favorite baby things to new people, places and adventures around the world. Wishing you and all of your friends and family a happy and prosperous year!
