The truth is, I have a serious case of wanderlust that has yet to subside. Before the babies were born, I vacationed and traveled at my discretion. I took weekend getaways, decided on at the last minute, and week-long excursions planned months in advance. My freedom to travel was limitless, as was my freedom in general before my littles graced our lives. I was young and carefree, and clearly a bit impulsive, hopping on a plane and flying from D.C. to New York City, just for the day. Although taking a last-minute trip with my babies is now highly unlikely, we still travel often (near and far) by plane, train, and car. In fact, both girls got their wings before they were three months old, and my second baby took her first flight just one month after she was born. It’s safe to assume my daughters will be traveling and exploring the world for their entire lives, or at least that is what I hope. There are lessons and discoveries that only travel can teach, and I encourage my daughters to explore, and explore often, because therein lies many new opportunities and a wealth of knowledge. They’re a bit young to grasp the profundity of travel, but I’m confident they will in time.
By now, you have probably seen the hashtag #HaveBabyWillTravel, and if you haven’t, head on over to Instagram or Twitter to see pictures and read tweets about how children, especially babies, do not have to be dampers on your wanderlust dreams. We have taken some enjoyable family trips, starting new traditions with every chance we get, continuing to tap into our adventurous sides. With that said, I have continued to keep travel hopes alive, making plans to travel the world, but this time, with our babies. These are my top five bucket list destinations, all places that totally give me the travel bug itch.
1. Greece and the Greek Islands (Mykonos, Santorini, Crete, and Athens)
2. Havana, Cuba
4. Hong Kong
5. Dubai, UAE
Where are you planning or dreaming of taking your little ones? What places are on your bucket list? If you don’t have a travel bucket list, I highly recommend creating one! Have fun with it, too! Tap into your childhood-like wonder and spin a globe, point to a destination, and research that particular place. There is so much to see, experience, and learn, and I hope to make more memories, near and far, with my littles.
